FOOD-FOR-LIFE 2007 CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF
November 01, 2007

“Our heroes should never go hungry,” says Art Hanger, M.P.

CALGARY  – Art Hanger, M.P. is encouraging Calgarians to donate generously to the annual “Food-for-Life” campaign which raises food, money and the necessities of life for Calgary’s veterans. The 2007 campaign officially kicks off today and runs into the New Year.

“Too many Canadian veterans rely on the food bank for their survival,” said Hanger. “It’s an unfortunate truth that even right here in our city, more than 700 veterans are living in poverty.”

Hanger started the “Food-for-Life” Campaign in 2005 as a way of drawing public attention to the plight of the many veterans who have encountered hard times in the years following their active service.

“These are people who fought selflessly for our country, who sacrificed the best years of their lives so the rest of us could live in peace and prosperity,” Hanger said. “I’m encouraging Calgarians to rally to their aid now.”

Gifts of money, toiletries and non-perishable food items are all desperately needed and can be dropped off at Hanger’s constituency office at Suite 140, 2635 - 37 Avenue NE, Monday through Friday between 9 am and 5 pm. All collected donations will be turned over to the Calgary Poppy Fund for distribution.

“Our heroes should never go hungry,” Hanger concluded. “Please, express your gratitude in a tangible way with a generous donation to the Food-for-Life campaign.”
