Getting Things Done on Democratic Reform
May 02, 2007

The Honourable Marjory LeBreton, Leader of the Government in the Senate, today welcomed Bert Brown, the second Senator selected by Canadian voters, to the Upper House. Mr. Brown will officially take his seat when Senator Dan Hays retires this summer.

Tomorrow, Bill C-16 will receive Royal Assent, thus fixing October 19th, 2009, as the next federal election date, with subsequent federal elections occurring at fixed four-year intervals.

Clearly, Stéphane Dion is offside with the desire of Canadians to make the Senate more effective and accountable.

Between January 1 and March 31, the Liberal Party posted its lowest quarterly fundraising total since Elections Canada started publishing fundraising results for the major political parties.
