Hanger Elected Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights

Ottawa, ON - Today, Calgary Northeast Member of Parliament and retired police officer Art Hanger was elected Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.

“I am grateful for the confidence that my colleagues have placed in me by electing me Chair of this important committee,” Art Hanger said. “Canadians want to be safe in their communities, and they want us to work together to deliver laws that will enhance public safety and crime prevention.”

“I look forward to working with members of all parties to deal with legislative initiatives and make an important difference, particularly in the area of criminal justice reform,” Hanger concluded.

Art Hanger brings to the position more than 13 years of experience as a Member of Parliament where he has become known as an advocate for meaningful criminal justice reform. Prior to entering elected politics, Art Hanger was a decorated police officer and detective with the Calgary Police Force, where he served for 22 years.
